Why I Built This Site

My grandfather in Houston missed his over-65 homestead exemption for three years running. When we finally figured it out and filed retroactively, we recovered over $4,000 in property tax refunds — money he had overpaid because nobody had explained the process clearly.

Getting that refund was harder than it should have been. Every county had different rules. Forms had different names across the state. The Texas Comptroller website required reading three separate pages to understand a process a 70-year-old should not need a law degree to navigate.

I built PropertyTaxSeniors.com so other families would not lose money they qualified for. The site tracks senior property tax rules across all 50 states and 500+ counties, updates them quarterly, and explains everything in plain English — the way I wished someone had explained it to my grandfather.

Who We Are

PropertyTaxSeniors.com is an independent site built and maintained by a solo developer focused entirely on senior tax tools. This is not a corporation, a law firm, or a government agency. It is one person who got tired of watching seniors miss exemptions they earned.

We have no investors, no sales team, and no agenda beyond helping homeowners 65+ keep more of their money.

What We Cover

  • Senior property tax exemptions in all 50 states
  • Over-65 additional exemptions and school district freezes
  • Property tax deferral programs and how they work
  • County-specific rules for 500+ counties
  • Recent law changes, including Texas Proposition 11 (2025)
  • Step-by-step application instructions with form numbers
  • Retroactive refund procedures for missed exemptions

How We Keep Information Accurate

Property tax law changes constantly — through state legislation, ballot measures, county budget decisions, and administrative rule changes. We track updates through three channels:

  • Direct review of state comptroller and county appraisal district websites quarterly
  • Monitoring of state legislative sessions for property tax bills
  • Reader feedback — if you spot an error, we fix it within 48 hours

We cite primary sources wherever possible — state statutes, county appraisal district websites, and official form numbers.

How We Make Money

We want to be direct about this: PropertyTaxSeniors.com earns money through advertising and may earn affiliate commissions in the future.

  • Google AdSense: We display ads served by Google. Google uses cookies to serve relevant ads based on your browsing history. You can opt out at Google Ads Settings.
  • Affiliate programs (future): We may add affiliate links to tax software, legal services, or other tools relevant to seniors. These will always be clearly disclosed.

Our revenue model does not affect our content. We do not write sponsored content, accept payments for favorable coverage, or recommend products we would not use ourselves.
